Dentures & Partials

What are Dentures & Partials?

Dentures and partials are meant to replace missing teeth in the mouth. Partials fit like an orthodontic retainer and contain just a few teeth to help replace several missing teeth in the mouth. Full dentures are meant for patients who are missing an entire arch of teeth. Dentures can last for about five to seven years and should be replaced once they begin to show signs of wear and tear.

Why Are Dentures & Partials Needed

Why are Dentures & Partials needed?

You may need a denture or partial because you’re currently missing a lot of your teeth. In some cases, extractions are necessary in order to be fitted for a full denture. Patients with severely advanced gum disease may be good candidates for a denture as it helps to replace what they’re missing. Dentures not only help to improve functionality to your mouth, but they can help in filling in your cheeks and face so that they don’t look sunken-in.

“The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won’t. It’s whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.”

Who’s a good candidate for Dentures & Partials?

Patients with advanced gum disease may be good candidates for full dentures. We may suggest having teeth extracted before a new prosthesis is made for you. We can determine if you’ll need or benefit from a denture with a simple examination. These appliances are ideal for patients who want a removable prosthesis that looks and feels natural.

The Denture & Partial Procedure

What happens during the Denture & Partial procedure?

We start by having a consultation with you and taking impressions. We help to determine the color of your new dentures and what size and shape tooth fits your needs the best. The impressions are then used to create the actual prosthetic appliances. You’ll come back in for a fitting and we’ll make slight adjustments to the denture to improve its fit. It’s not uncommon to need a few adjustments before the denture fits just right. You will need to remove the denture nightly to clean it and will need to replace it every five to seven years.

If you think you might need or benefit from a denture, call us today and we can answer all of your questions regarding this procedure.
